A Dark Journey to Starved Rock

It started out as a weekend getaway from Chicago…but the feeling of dread crept up on us quickly…

In Oglesby, Illinois, Sparkle Cleaners had a filthy sign…

In Ottawa, a steak house had a sign that creaked and groaned in the gusting wind…

And entering Starved Rock State Park we confronted every right-winger’s ultimate nightmare…

But the Starved Rock Lodge looked inviting enough…

…though keeping the mummified remains of Chief Illiniwek in the lobby was creepy.

By the second day, the Lodge was giving off a distinctly Stephen King vibe…

Take this bear, for instance. Tell me this bear isn’t evil.

Even the scenic beauty in the surrounding canyons was eerie.

But on the final day of our visit, at the bottom of the Pontiac canyon, we made the acquaintance of a beautiful blonde…

And that made all the difference….
